(4659) Flooding from ditches, or (contour ditch irrigation)
A type of controlled irrigation whereby the water is diverted from ditches (which more or less follow the contours) and flows as a sheet across fields. The delivery is controlled by the spacing between ditches as well as by the size and location of the openings on each ditch. Once commonly used on mountain meadows where it is referred to as ‘wild flooding’ (USA).
